MHRA Alert – #MedSafetyWeek 2025: Collective Action to Improve Medicines Safety

Medicines Safety Week 2025: A Shared Responsibility

The MHRA is launching its annual #MedSafetyWeek campaign from 3 to 9 November 2025, with a clear message: we can all help make medicines safer.

What You Need to Know

This year’s campaign emphasises that medicines safety is not the responsibility of regulators and healthcare professionals alone. Patients, carers, pharmacists, prescribers, and all members of the healthcare team play a vital role in identifying and reporting safety concerns.

The campaign aims to:

  • Raise awareness of how everyone can contribute to safer medicines use
  • Encourage reporting of suspected adverse effects and safety issues
  • Promote best practice in medicines management across all care settings
  • Strengthen the culture of safety reporting in primary, secondary, and community care

Why This Matters

Medicines safety underpins patient trust and clinical outcomes. By fostering a proactive reporting culture and encouraging open communication about medication concerns, we reduce harm and improve the quality of care delivered to all patients.

How You Can Get Involved

Whether you work in general practice, hospital, community pharmacy, or out-of-hospital care, you can support #MedSafetyWeek by:

  • Discussing medicines safety with colleagues and patients
  • Reporting suspected adverse drug reactions via the Yellow Card scheme
  • Reviewing your local medicines governance processes
  • Sharing safety learning across your team
